Microsoft Cortana - The Artificial Intelligence

Microsoft Cortana's updated version coming to India this summer

SAN FRANCISCO: India will be among a select group of 13 nations where an updated version of Microsoft's digital personal assistant will roll out later this summer as part of the Windows 10 anniversary update announced by the technology giant.

Apart from India, the other countries where the Windows 10Anniversary Update will be available include the US, the UK, China, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Brazil, Cortana's group programme manager Marcus Ash said during a session on the sidelines of the ongoing annual developers' conference 'Build 2016' here.

Ash told that the update will be available for both phone and personal computers and Microsoft is focussed on "getting it right" for its "most important countries", particularly India, China and Japan.

Ash said Cortana is an English product right now in India but given the different regional languages and dialects in the country, Microsoft is starting to think about how to expand it to the other languages.

"There are all these different languages and regional dialects. That's the thing they are starting to think about... how to expand (to other languages)," he said.

Cortana was first made available in India in November last year when the technology giant had rolled out its first major update to the Windows 10 operating system.

Kicking-off the Build 2016 conference, Nadella had showcased improvements to Cortana, which was introduced two years ago, and announced previews of new cloud services and toolkits designed to create intelligent bots.

Microsoft yesterday announced at the ongoing conference that the anniversary update for Windows 10 will be available later this summer in all the 13 countries and along with features innovations for Windows Ink, Cortana, Windows Hello and gaming.

Microsoft had introduced at the conference the 'Cortana Intelligence Suite', formerly known as the Cortana Analytics Suite, powered by research into big data, machine learning, perception, analytics and intelligent bots.

Among the new additions to the Cortana Intelligence Suite, is the 'Microsoft Cognitive Services', which is a collection of intelligence Application Program Interface (APIs) that allows systems to see, hear, speak, understand and interpret the users needs using natural methods of communication.

However, the Cortana Developer Preview is available now, so that developers can get started working with the new features.

A New Smartphone Company With Powerful Specs...

There are number of new companies in the mobile industry dedicated to deliver the best feature in their smartphones in order to attract maximum number of customers. China is one of those countries where many market entrants are competing with each other through their high end specifications in their devices. Vernee is one of them, and they have recently launched their latest model as Verne Apollo.

This company was founded in February 2016, and Apollo is the first device which is loaded with high end features. The company has given some exclusive features in the device so that it can allure most of the users in China and outside the country also.

As per reports given by Android Authority, this latest Chinese handset will arrive with 5.5-inchQHD display (1440 x 2560 pixel resolution) which is equipped with Force Touch. The most interesting thing about this smartphone is the manufacturers have equipped Vernee Apollo with 128 GB of internal storage capacity.

It is very great to mention that Vernee, being a new market entry in the mobile industry, has incorporated a number of exclusive and eye catching features. But unfortunately, this company hasn’t mentioned anything about the details of Force Touch feature. This device also comes with metal body, 3D Touch support display, and a fingerprint sensor on its rear side. Vernee Apollo has given 21 MP in its primary camera along with Sony IMX230 sensor and users will also be able to witness 8Mp in its front.Vernee Apollo is also manufactured with ten-core MediaTek MT6797 SoC.

The Vernee Apollo also comes with USB Type-C port and the company has decided to run the smartphone on the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has surprised everyone in the mobile industry as this is very unusual because the company like Vernee has given 6 GB RAM in this device which is highly impressive.

Price of this device has been given $399, and it is expected that this device will be available for all users from any point in April. In this context, it is very crucial to mention that the price of this device is bit high, but there are some buyers for this type of high-end specified devices.

Sony Launches Cyber-Shot RX10 III Super-Zoom Camera

It appears Sony is on a camera launch spree as after the recent announcement of the HX80  travel compact camera earlier this month, the company has now launched the Cyber-shot RX10 III super-zoom camera, which brings extended zoom capability to the RX series. Sony will put this camera on sale this May for about $1,500 (approximately Rs. 1 lakh).
The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 III features a 20.1-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor and is powered by Sony’s Bionz X image processor. The main highlight however is the new 24-600mm zoom lens (Vario-Sonnar T 24-600mm F2.4 – F4) which provides 25x optical zoom. The extended zoom lens features a total of 8 ED glass elements to minimise chromatic aberration and enhance picture quality.

The ISO sensitivity range on the Sony Cyber-shot RX10 III is 64-12,800 while the burst mode tops out at 14fps. The latter is possible thanks to a speedy DRAM chip placed at the rear of the sensor which is able to process large amounts of data very quickly. Due to this, the RX10 III can shoot super slow-motion video footage at 240fps, 480fps, and an incredible 960fps.

The new camera also adds several improvements to the body compared to its predecessors. You now have triple lens rings for precise adjustment of the focus, zoom, and aperture. The hand-grip has also been modified for better stability and a dedicated button to lock the focus. You also get 4K video recording support, an Oled electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 2.35 million dots, dust and water resistance, as well as wireless connectivity in the form of Wi-Fi and NFC.

Samsung launched the Galaxy J3 smartphone with S Bike mode

Samsung launched the Galaxy J3 smartphone with S Bike mode, priced at Rs 8,990, which will be available exclusively onSnapdeal from today. The smartphone, which is targeted at millions of bike users in India who cannot take calls while riding, comes bundled with an NFC tag which when paired with the phone serves as a call assistant for bikers.

The feature when switched on informscallers that a biker is unable to take the call because he's on the move. In case of urgency, the caller has to press 1 to take the call forward. Till the time the feature is on, a biker cannot take the call while driving as the call will not go through, as motion sensors attached with the feature disallow calls while on the move.

"This is an India specific feature built for this market," said Asim Warsi, senior vice president, Samsung India Electronics. "It will be expanded to newer J series models and current devices via software updates," he added.

The feature, Warsi said, also finds resonance in several developing markets where Samsung operates and demand for the same has been seen already. "It can be extended to other markets very swiftly."

The Galaxy J3 is the lowest costing NFC enabled smartphone from Samsung, and with the S Bike feature, the company feels it will be able to increase its leadership margins in the Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 price segment.

Samsung claimed that the J series alone, under which three models were launched last year, makes up 20% of the entire mobile phone industry by value.

"We have a 50% market share as of February 2016 in that segment," Warsi said, citing GfK figures by value. "Galaxy J3 will propel our market share in this segment," he added.

The 4G-enabled phone comes with a 1.5 quad-core processor, 1.5 GB RAM and 8 MP rear and 5 MP front camera. The phone will be available online exclusively and riders using S Bike mode while driving, stand to win Rs 1,500 a month from Freecharge.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries took the stage at FICCI FRAMES 2016 and spoke about the future of digital media and Reliance Jio services.

Speaking of the potential of digital media content and accessible broadband, Ambani said that an affordable video network would change the way we learn.

“It will revolutionise education in India. We’re moving from audio to video,” he said. Adding in that the world was graduating to a tele-media world and that we are now part of a tele-media front.

Oculus VR Brings A New Reality To The Gaming World

After walking the floor of the InternationalConsumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, many gaming industry participants saw the virtual reality (VR) writing on the wall for the first time — and in a very realistic way. Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) gaming has arrived, or gotten extremely close, with the official ship date for the Oculus Rift VR viewer set for March 28 and current pre-order acceptance now taking place.

Some issues remain in the technology and user experience, not to mention the price point. However, barring a major misstep by the Oculus unit of Facebook, none of these remain permanent obstacles to prevent a long-term VR trend from taking effect in 2016 (according to a January 2016 report from SUPERDATA forecasting an install base of about 38 million VR gaming consumers by the end of the year and a July 2015 Business Insider estimate of VR headset shipments growing at a 99 percent CAGR between 2015 and 2020, reaching $30 billion by that end date).

Game console makers feel the heat from PC VR

While the Oculus Rift VR viewer existed in thepurview of developers alone since June 2015, with this January’s announcement, the mainstream gaming public will now have an opportunity to experience VR firsthand. However, most of these potential gamers could remain on the sidelines unless they upgrade from Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox consoles to a fully decked-out PC. That’s unless the console makers get in the PC VR game.

“Nintendo either needs to adapt or be left behind,” Tim Lynch, CEO of Psychsoftpc, tells me. “Microsoft already has its own VR/ARHoloLens in beta now for developers. And since Xbox is essentially a PC-based system, it is better equipped to meet this.”

Actually, Nintendo is playing a wait-and-see game, according to Joanan Hernandez, CEO and founder of Mollejuo, an augmented reality (AR) company with a mobile app called Terra Icons.

“Microsoft is betting heavily on AR with HoloLens,” he says. “Thus, the only direct competition for Oculus is PlayStation VR and HTC Steam VR. There’s space for the three of them — Oculus, HTC, PlayStation — at least initially.”

In fact, HTC does a great job with physical-digital interactions, according to J.P. Gownder, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research, a global research and advisory firm. “And it might have some advantages over Oculus in the features department,” he tells me. “For example, by tracking your movement throughout a room using base stations.”

Canon EOS 1300D Entry-Level DSLR Launched

Nearly two years after Canon launched the EOS 1200D in India; the company has announced its successor with the EOS 1300D. The new entry-level DSLR is priced at Rs. 29,995 for the body and a EF-S 18-55 IS II kit lens. You also have a choice of another package which will include a EF-S 55-250 IS II zoom lens for Rs. 38,995. Both variants will be available starting April.

The Canon 1300D is an incremental update to the 1200D. First on the list of upgrades is the faster DIGIC 4 powering the camera, which should allow for faster image processing and focusing speeds. The sensor is the same 18-megpaixel APS-C CMOS sensor while the ISO range stays at 100-6,400. The resolution of the 3-inch LCD screen has improved to nearly double at 920k dots, which should give you a sharper and clearer image.

The biggest change however is the addition of Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, which now allows you to instantly transfer images to your smartphone or remotely frame a shot with Canon’s Camera Connect app. Other Canon 1300D features include 1080p video recording, 9-point autofocus system and burst shooting up to 3fps. The camera weighs nearly the same as the older model too, at around 485g.

Andrew Koh, Vice President of Consumer Imaging and Information Centre, Canon India said, “Photography as a hobby and sporting a DSLR camera is quite the rage in India presently. So is social media, and everybody wants to share their images online with their friends immediately. With this a precursor, we are thrilled to launch the EOS 1300D – a DSLR camera with inbuilt Wi-Fi & NFC. The EOS 1300D creates great looking images and allows instantaneously sharing them as well – thus meeting the requirements of first time users, social media junkies and hobbyists alike.”

Low-light image enhancement
See the night, not the noise
The best cameras rise to the challenge at night. A truly great camera should be fine tuned and calibrated with a photographer's eye. This is how Mi 5 reduces noise in low light images. By taking multiple images and stitching them together, it brightens darker regions while retaining details in the shadows. Photos look sharp and stunning, even at night.
Supersized pixels for selfies
2-micron pixel front camera
More pixels or better pixels, which would you pick? Megapixels might increase image resolution, but a large pixel sensor dramatically improves photo quality. With a 4MP 2-micron pixel front camera, selfies look phenomenal on Mi 5. Larger pixels capture more light, making complexions bright and details pop. It still delivers a massive 2688 x 1512 resolution, so you can print up to 20" photos.
36 smart beauty profiles
More beautiful with Beautify
Selfies should look great the instant you snap them. Yet we spend so much time editing selfies to get that natural looking glow. Try Beautify. It intelligently guesses your age and gender to apply one of 36 smart beauty profiles to your selfie. Watch in real-time as it smoothens skin, widens eyes, slims chin and more. Beautify looks so good you can't help but smile at the reflection.
32s exposure
Take a long shot
Paint photos with colors of the night with ultra-long 32s exposure. This professional feature, hardly found in smartphones, captures night lights and starry skies to produce artistic shots that are truly captivating.
4K video
Four times more fantastic
Seal your memories in 4K video - that's 4 times higher resolution than regular full HD videos. It captures more detailed scenes and gives you more video editing options, so you can crop and zoom without sacrificing on video quality.
Slow-mo video
Learn to take things slow
Slow-mo videos always take a dramatic turn. Film skateboard tricks or seagulls in flight at 120fps and watch your clips replay at 4 times slower than normal speed.

Mi 5 has a 13.08cm (5.15) display with over 2 million pixels and six different screen technologies embedded within. Yet we asked ourselves, what else can we do to improve display quality? This thin, ultra-bright display also comes with technologies like Sunlight Display, night display, reading mode, and more. It is the best display we've ever made, and our brightest idea yet.

1500:1 contrast ratio
Enjoy brighter whites and deeper blacks with a high 1500:1 contrast ratio, made possible with NEGA negative LCD technology.
95% NTSC color gamut
The higher the NTSC, the more vivid the display. Mi 5 has an extremely colour saturated 95% NTSC, which is a 30% increase from ordinary sRGB displays.
Looks perfect in any light
Sunlight Display
Don't shy from the sun
Can't see clearly under the sun even at maximum brightness? Sunlight Display on Mi 5 is what you need. It monitors ambient light and dynamically adjusts the contrast for each pixel in real time. By adjusting only specific areas that are darker, Mi 5 remains clear and easy to read even under harsh sunlight.
Night Display
Dim for the dark
Screen too glaring after lights out? Night Display provides dimmer options and has better control over screen brightness, so you can find the most comfortable settings for your eyes.
Reading mode
Easy on the eyes
Reading on the phone for prolonged periods exposes us to harmful blue light rays which can cause eye strain. Reading mode prevents this by reducing the amount of blue light emitted from the display. It takes on a pale yellow tinge that is gentler on the eyes.
Improves sleep
Research shows that blue light suppresses melatonin secretion which is bad for sleep. Reading mode reduces blue light so you can sleep better at night.
Protects eyes
Reading mode reduces the amount of harmful blue light to minimize damage to our eyes.
